Was thinking about something yesterday after talking with sean. For those who don’t know whos sean…he is a new friend whom I made that studies in NAFA fashion design. so blah. As I was saying, I was thinking of something yesterday night after talking to him. something to do with singapore’s education system.
I’m sure that if you are reading my blog, you would have gone through the singapore’s education structure (unless you are not staying in Singapore). Straight to the point, you would have been chosen by the school to do a certain elective. Poa, fnn, dnt and art.
So the thing that I am going to say Is that bad about the way that the school selects students to do certain elective. You see, in my sec sch, we are chosen not by likes but more of whether the teacher has favorites on you. That’s how I see it as. But there is something that I feel is really damn dumb. That they choose people who has no interest in working for the elective that they are doing for the future. So for the people I know of, the art students are talking accounting, sports and health.. the fnn students are doing supply chain(me).
So what I want to say that students are not able to choose what they really want to study and do for the future. Like me, where I want to do fashion side, shouldn’t I be the one who should be taking arts so that in the end, I would still have a place in the fashion world. And that I wouldn’t spend 3 years studying something that I wouldn’t be working in the future. If I don’t talk about me, what about my art student friends? That they took art, not happy about it and took accounting and other courses that have no relation to arts. Don’t you think that its not fair that people are not able to choose what they are really interested in. is it because that the school wants “face” and to maintain the good results awards thingy? Because of an award, and people are not able to learn what they really love, I think its fucking stupid. Or because these kids are able to draw circles better than the other better students who improvised and drew pentagons?
I still feel that someone should mention this to some head in the education sector. That people should be given the ability to choose what they really like instead of the teacher choosing which students that they like. Isn’t education nurturing your potential? Why isn’t my potential and my likes being discovered by the school teacher that chooses 20 of the students that he likes most that couldn’t draw in the start or has simply no interests in the arts?
